Hayla: Empowering Independence Through Smart Tech for Diverse Abilities

Hayla: The Future of IoT-Powered Independence for Seniors and Diverse Abilities

Hayla Assisted Living Technology

One solution paves the way for greater independence in a world where technology redefines daily life. Known as Hayla, this digital platform offers seniors and individuals with disabilities newfound autonomy.

It resulted from years of collaboration between Cisco’s Country Digital Acceleration (CDA) program, Ignite Technology, and other key partners.

Everyday tasks like keeping a home clean or staying connected with family seem simple.

However, for people with diverse abilities, these are daily challenges. Hayla’s technology helps users meet these challenges with confidence and dignity.

Hayla’s journey began in 2021 at the Lou Fruitman Residence in Toronto. This residence, run by Reena, houses 138 adults and seniors with diverse needs.

During the pilot phase, the project implemented IoT sensors, automated alerts, smart devices, collaboration hubs, and a proprietary app.

Enhancing Self-Sufficiency Through Technology

Hayla promotes self-sufficiency without compromising privacy. Its IoT sensors monitor refrigerator use, door access, and water leaks.

These tools ensure safety while allowing users to live independently.

Smart notifications and reminders are vital. They help users manage tasks like taking medication or completing household chores.

When emergencies arise, caregivers can respond promptly, ensuring quick support.

Communication is key to Hayla’s approach. Cisco Webex integrates seamlessly into the platform, providing simple one-click communication. Users can quickly call family members, caregivers, or therapists by tapping their pictures.

Each solution is tailored to individual needs. The process begins by identifying specific user challenges. From there, Hayla implements customized technologies to address those challenges.

Scaling for a Global Impact

Hayla’s success in Toronto demonstrates its potential for global scalability. The platform’s foundation relies on Cisco’s robust technological infrastructure.

Firewall routers and access points connect with Meraki IoT sensors to monitor safety and environmental factors.

For larger setups, Hayla includes additional equipment like switches. These tools support more complex implementations.

This flexibility makes Hayla suitable for various living environments and population needs.

Security is a top priority for Hayla’s developers. Cisco and Meraki’s advanced security measures protect sensitive personal and medical data, ensuring confidence among users, families, and caregivers.

Hayla’s design keeps technology simple and accessible. Its user-friendly interface ensures that even non-tech-savvy individuals can use it effectively.

For example, one button can initiate a video call or send an alert.

The platform also adapts to changing user needs. Whether someone requires emotional support or assistance with daily tasks, Hayla provides solutions. It’s a dynamic tool for evolving challenges.

Cisco’s CDA program supports transformative initiatives like Hayla.

Hayla’s impact extends beyond individuals to families and communities. Enabling independence alleviates caregiver burdens and improves the quality of life for everyone involved.

As global populations age, supportive technologies like Hayla will become increasingly important. The platform addresses a growing need for inclusive, scalable living solutions.

It empowers individuals while setting a new standard for independence and care.

With its focus on safety, simplicity, and scalability, Hayla represents the future of assisted living. It combines cutting-edge technology with human-centered design to improve lives.

This innovative platform inspires and leads the way for transformative care solutions.
