India is at the forefront of the global K-pop phenomenon. Over the past decade, the country’s K-pop fanbase has grown rapidly.
Social media and streaming platforms have fueled this enthusiasm, effortlessly connecting fans with idols and music.
Recognizing this passion, LG India launched a platform to celebrate K-pop and discover new talent. Their initiative aims to bring Korean culture closer to Indian youth. At the heart of this effort is the annual “All India K-POP Contest.”
The event has become a cornerstone for K-pop fans in India. It provides a platform for emerging talent while promoting cultural harmony. The 2024 edition saw record-breaking participation, highlighting the genre’s massive appeal.
This year’s contest began with 2,496 online auditions. Participants showcased their skills through dynamic performances, vying for advancement. These auditions marked one of the largest K-pop talent hunts outside South Korea.
After the initial round, 281 participants progressed to regional tournaments in Kohima, Itanagar, Ahmedabad, and Chennai. Each regional round brought electrifying performances and intense competition.
Twenty-seven participants earned spots in the semi-finals from the regional stages. The competition grew tougher every round, and fans eagerly followed their favorite contestants’ journeys on social media.
The semi-finals featured a prestigious judging panel. Renowned K-pop figures like Yoonhyeok, Jaemin from NTX, and Ha Minwoo evaluated the performances. Indian choreographer Sushil Chhetri joined the panel, ensuring fair and expert assessments.
The semi-finals weren’t just about competition. They included a live performance by the K-pop band NTX. Over 2,500 fans attended, cheering and dancing to NTX’s captivating choreography.
Twelve contestants, including two LG Wild Card entries, advanced to the grand finale, which set the stage for one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. Fans couldn’t wait to witness the showdown.
The grand finale took place at Yashobhoomi in New Delhi. Known as India’s largest convention center, the venue provided a stunning backdrop. Over 4,000 fans gathered to watch the thrilling conclusion.
